THE PANEL:

Hon. Shirley Bond*, Minister of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour was elected in 2001 and 2005 as the MLA for Prince George-Mount Robson, and re-elected in 2009 and 2013 as the MLA for Prince George-Valemount. Shirley was appointed Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour on June 10, 2013. Shirley has served as Deputy Premier, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Minister of Education, Minister Responsible for Early Learning and Literacy, Minister of Advanced Education, Minister of Health Services, and Attorney General, a title she held while Minister of Justice. Shirley currently serves as the Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy, Vice Chair of the Treasury Board, is a member on the Priorities and Planning Committee and Cabinet Committee on Climate Leadership and works directly with the Premier’s Women’s Economic Council. Prior to her election, Shirley served 3 terms on the Prince George School Board. (*Minister has advised that if she is unable to attend, she will try to send an alternate)

 

Shane Simpson, Opposition Spokesperson for Economic Development, Jobs, Labour and Skills was first elected as the MLA for Vancouver Hastings in May 2005. He was re-elected in May 2009, and again in May 2013. Shane serves as Opposition Spokesperson for Economic Development, Jobs, Labour and Skills and Opposition Caucus Chair. He has also served as Opposition Critic for Labour, Housing and the Environment. Born and raised in East Vancouver, Shane has lived, worked, and engaged in community-building activities in his community since 1971. Shane has worked as the Director of Policy and Communications for Smart Growth BC, chair of the Vancouver City Planning Commission, an instructor in the Community Economic Development program at Simon Fraser University, Executive Director of the Worker Ownership Resource Center, Legislative Coordinator for the CUPE, coordinator and fundraiser for the Ray Cam Cooperative Center, Executive Assistant to former Vancouver East MP Margaret Mitchell, and as a self-employed business and economic development consultant.

 

Erica Johnson, (born in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian broadcast journalist who hosts the TV series Marketplace on CBC Television. A graduate of Ryerson University in Toronto, Johnson began her journalism career in radio in 1987, working at several private radio stations, including Vancouver’s CKO and Toronto’s CFRB. In 1990, she began her CBC career as a radio news reporter for the local Toronto affiliate CBL. Johnson moved from radio to CBC Television in 1993, creating and reporting on The Health Show. She then returned to Vancouver to become a news reporter and anchor for the Vancouver affiliate CBUT. Her specialty areas included media and health reporting, with a particular interest in the pharmaceutical industry. Johnson joined Marketplace as a reporter, and eventually became the Vancouver co-host of the program. Johnson has won awards, including several Jack Webster Awards, RTNDA Awards, a Gabriel, a Freddie Award and a 2011 Leo Award. She was also nominated for 4 Gemini awards and a Canadian Screen Award.
